The head of the International Monetary Fund, French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arrested and removed off a an airplane at JFK airport, New York tonight. He was pulled of a plane just before it took off at 4.45pm EST, by Port Authority cops. Strauss-Kahn, 62, allegedly crept up behind a maid after she entered his room and forced her to perform oral sex on him, sources said.

He is one of the key figure’s in the IMF, who are driving the currently  massive restructuring of trans European social policy – essentially making political and social decisions without any democratic mandate from the population of Europe whatsoever. The governments of Greece, Ireland and Portugal have rolled over and given power of decision making to people like Dominique Strauss-Kahn. One is unsure what more people need to know to waken up and start fighting back. It seems that these people at the ‘top’ are very dark creatures for sure

It was about 4:45 p.m. when plainclothes detectives of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey suddenly boarded the plane, Air France Flight 23, as it idled on the tarmac at the airport 10 minutes before it was scheduled to take off and took Mr. Strauss-Kahn into custody, according to an agency official.

The Port Authority officers were acting on information from the New York Police Department, whose detectives had been investigating a brutal attack of a woman employee at the hotel Sofitel New York, at 45 West 44th Street, in the heart of the city’s theater district.

The report suggest that this is not the first time that the man responsible for policies that are leaving millions of live in ruin across the globe has been involved with sexual assault  and using his power to both manipulate women and make ‘the problem go away’

In 2008 he was embroiled in a controversy after accusations arose that he had had a sexual relationship with one of his subordinates, Piroska Nagy, a senior official in the I.M.F.’s Africa Department. The I.M.F. hired a law firm to launch an investigation, and Ms. Nagy left the fund and went to work for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. With the I.M.F. needed to quell the international economic meltdown, Mr. Strauss-Kahn was kept on the job. He later apologized for an “error in judgment.”

In this country we are all too used to meaningless phrase being used in essense to neutralise meaning. “Error in judgement” doesnt come close.

Three Port Authority detectives pulled Dominique Strauss-Kahn from the plane’s first-class cabin just two minutes before it was due to depart for Paris, the sources said.

Strauss-Kahn, 62, was turned over to NYPD officers from the Midtown South precinct, and the case is being investigated by the Special Victims Unit.

He was being questioned by the NYPD special victims office. Strauss-Kahn had retained an attorney and was not making statements to the police, Browne said. No charges have yet been filed.

The 32-year-old woman told authorities that she entered Strauss-Kahn’s room at the Sofitel near Manhattan’s Times Square at about 1pm local time (1600 GMT) on Saturday and he emerged from the bedroom naked, threw her down and tried to sexually assault her, Browne said.

She told authorities that he tried to force her to perform oral sex on him. She somehow broke free and escaped the room and told hotel staff what had happened, authorities said. They called police.

When New York City police detectives arrived moments later, Strauss-Kahn had already left the hotel, leaving behind his mobile phone and other personal items, Browne said. “It looked like he got out of there in a hurry,” Browne said.

The NYPD discovered he was at the airport and contacted the Port Authority, who plucked Kahn from the Air France flight that had not yet departed. It wasn’t immediately clear if the 62-year-old Strauss-Kahn had been planning to leave on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The maid was taken by police to an area hospital. John Sheehan, a spokesman for the hotel, said its staff was cooperating with the authorities in the investigation.

William Murray, a spokesman for the IMF in Washington, said the IMF had no immediate comment on the reports of Strauss-Kahn’s arrest.

Strauss-Kahn is one of the key figures behind the restructural programmes that are wreaking havoc across Europe as the IMF insists on increasing retirement ages,  slashing wages, tearing up social safety nets such as disability allowances, healthcare etc and seeks the privitisation of all common good so that they can be run on a for-profit basis. As bastards go, they dont come much bigger than this.
